Captain Earl

6/24/1994- 01/04/05

Captain came to us as a foster dog in September 2001. He had lived since birth in Florida, but his owner turned him over to Marilyn Varnberg (Greyhound Adoptions of Florida) because he had financial difficulties. Marilyn sent him north for us to foster and this tall, skinny, 7 ½ year old black greyhound wormed his way into our hearts. The fostering period ended in adoption after about 5 days. Goofy, affectionate, loyal, graceful as he galloped around the yard with his squeaky ball- he was all of those things and more. The 3 years he shared with us were wonderful. For the love of Captain I learned to walk 4 dogs at once. It was worth all of the tangling of the leashes. Adopting an older hound can mean you have fewer years together, but we wouldn't have missed it for the world. To love and be loved by our Captain was wonderful and our sorrow at his passing is balanced out by the joy that we had in having him for the years we did. Rest in peace sweet Captain!
