Greyhound Adoption of Greater Rochester, NY (GAGR)

Greyhound racing is coming to an end in Florida at the end of 2020. Several tracks have already closed. The remaining dogs will be absorbed by adoption groups across the country successfully. A decrease in breeding has even caused some shortages of greyhounds going into adoption this past year. GAGR has decided to not take any further applications due to the end of racing in FL (the source of our adoption dogs).

We suggest looking into adoption from the Sighthound Underground (www.sighthoundunderground.com) as they often have fosters in our area and can help provide transportation to adopters. Since their dogs are fostered, that can help determine if a dog would fit in your home.

We also suggest Forever Home Greyhounds (foreverhomegreyhounds.com). They are in the Albany area, but adopt throughout NYS. They currently have dogs. Forever Home Greyhounds also fosters all their greyhounds so you can see if the dog’s personality will mesh with your home situation.

GAGR continues to support all the adopters and their dogs that we have adopted out in the past and we will take back any returns, if needed. Thank you for your interest in adopting an ex-racer.

Greyhound Adoption of Greater Rochester, NY, is a racing neutral non-profit 501(C)(3) all volunteer organization. We believe every greyhound retired from racing deserves the chance for a real home and loving family. Our goal is to bring hounds and homes together.

To that end, we will make every effort to provide information on not only the unique qualifications of greyhound adoption, but on realistic expectations as well ... to offer ongoing support and guidance to those families who have made an educated, responsible commitment to adopt ...and to hold the welfare and well-being of the greyhounds above all other considerations.
