Greyhound Adoption of Greater Rochester, NY is dedicated to matching the right greyhound with the right family. We prefer to select a greyhound for a family based on a family profile that is sent to one of the tracks that supply greyhounds to us. The kennel workers at the track know their dogs and are able to select dogs that are child friendly (we adopt to homes with children 5 and older) and cat friendly (please read this for an explanation of cat/small animal friendly) for those families that consist of children over five and cats or other small animals. They can also pass along to us personality and energy level traits that help us to make a good match. We want both our adoptive families and our greyhounds to get off to the best possible start. Occasionally, we have dogs that are immediately available like the ones that appear on this page. Our adoption fee is $250 which includes: spay/neuter, dental cleaning, up to date shots, new martingale collar and matching lead and the "Retired Racing Greyhounds for Dummie", book. If you are interested in adopting a greyhound from us, go to the Forms section, download the Adoption Application and send it in or email us through the Contact Us link.
Bluejean Babe

Bluejean Babe: Babe or "B-B" as she is affectionately called, is a beautiful 4 year old red fawn girl, 67 pounds. She is a little wary at first of new situations, but she warms up quickly and is very sweet. She has a calm and low key personality, but she gets very excited around little dogs and likes to chase them. Although she tested cat friendly, we think she might be a little TOO friendly and would warn anyone that has cats or very small dogs that caution should be used! She likes to be in her crate with the door open and is as quiet as a mouse. Babe is just a lovely dog... sensitive and more than a little timid, so perhaps an older couple or single person with a set daily routine would be best for her. We don't think Babe should be in a home with children who might accidentally leave the door open. The most important thing to know about Babe is that she is a jumper. She can clear a 4 foot fence and has already done so. Anyone who adopts Babe is going to need at least a 6 foot fence. It would not be a good idea that Babe go to someone that must exclusively leash walk (in other words, a home with no fence), due to her timidity with new people and new situations. She would he OK for a walk on a leash occasionally, but If she were to get loose, it will be very, very difficult to catch her, as she will not approach anyone or come when called. Because of this, we are calling Babe a special needs baby. She will need someone with prior greyhound experience who understands the importance of not accidentally leaving a door or gate open. You can visit Babe in her Orlando foster home by appointment.
