Greyhound Adoption of Greater Rochester, NY is dedicated to matching the right greyhound with the right family. We prefer to select a greyhound for a family based on a family profile that is sent to one of the tracks that supply greyhounds to us. The kennel workers at the track know their dogs and are able to select dogs that are child friendly (we adopt to homes with children 5 and older) and cat friendly (please read this for an explanation of cat/small animal friendly) for those families that consist of children over five and cats or other small animals. They can also pass along to us personality and energy level traits that help us to make a good match. We want both our adoptive families and our greyhounds to get off to the best possible start. Occasionally, we have dogs that are immediately available like the ones that appear on this page. Our adoption fee is $250 which includes: spay/neuter, dental cleaning, up to date shots, new martingale collar and matching lead and the "Retired Racing Greyhounds for Dummie", book. If you are interested in adopting a greyhound from us, go to the Forms section, download the Adoption Application and send it in or email us through the Contact Us link.

Joni - Adoption Fee Waived for approved adopter!

Joni may be a senior gal (in her ninth year), but no she doesn’t believe it. She acts like a young pup. Her plush, squeaky soccer ball is her joy in the yard. She throws it and jumps and runs to retrieve her prize ecstatically while playing. Very inquisitive, Joni loves to examine the world on daily walks. She adores people and children and always approaches them to share her affection and receive a few friendly caresses. Definitely not an alpha with people or her fellow greyhound roommate, she knows her place and is not pushy. She has never counter-surfed or done any wrong in the house. In fact, she will bark to let you know if she has to go out to relieve herself. Otherwise, she’s pretty silent except for a few contented sighs now and then. She’s never exhibited any fear or separation anxiety. A lady In great health, she’s raring to go!
Joni’s track name is Peare. Her winning record shows why she was kept for a brood mom. Some of that spirit exhibits itself in her aggressive interest in small animals and even some larger dogs. Other that that, she’s a perfect darling and a loving clown and a real joy!
